Hi

If I may add some coments.

There seems to be many very well developed X3D browsers with the possibility to run scripts as JavaScript, python , JavaAPI and DOM.

And this discussion and similar are focusing on how to use this scripting to interface with network protocols.
IMHO if you consider the proposed syntax of networksensor node when you design the script node to handle networkprotocols it's easier to transform the X3D sceen to Network Sensor Node when it's implemented.
With this in consideration I'm making MU adopted X3D-sceens with different scripts.

Secondly it the system to connect the MU adoped X3D-sceens together.
Where there are the well used DIS, some propertatian for Octaga and BS and now the opensource DeepMatrix.
There was some development using HawkML some years ago.
Persopnally I'v been looking at EJabberD http://www.ejabberd.im/ to handle XMPP and Jabber protocol. XMPP can be interfaced to InstantPlayer by DOM-protocol and also other browsers trugh JavaScript and Python libs.

Personally I prefere a protocol handler that can be used for a veriaty of protocols as NetworkSensor Node will be implemented. Then It should handle account and session, with session I mean X3D-MU-Seens as world in DeepMatrix and X3D-space. And account to apply security to X3D-MU-Sceens for restrikting whos allowed to log in to a session
And what roule the user could have in a session.
It could be usefull to apply some security to the transport of the protocols messages between the clients and servers as when running for example a driversimulator with hydraulic or electromechanical motinbases.

Then it's a question of repository to models and objects for compile a model. The repository should be searchable and with diffrent level of accesiblilty as objects for freeware, shareware, licenseware and propertarian objects.
Personally I prefere to add some meta data to the object descripting scripts or codesnipps.
Have been looking at Collada and BIM/IFC used in the building area se: http://www.iai-tech.org/and the possibility to import/export Collada <> ifcXML <> X3D into a CMS system as for example Plone.
This would give the possibility to use Building elements stored in IFC format for buiding X3D worlds.
Have proposed this as a project for our students.

Thank you for listening to me.
Need to leave my computer and rush to the flight to Brussel and a relaxing weekend in Lille.
