[X3D-Public] question about page "Player support for X3D components"

Hi

On page http://web3d.org/wiki/index.php/Player_support_for_X3D_components

I find support for component "Scripting - Java" and the statement is 
"partial (external)".

Can anybody explain, what the restriction "external" means?
