For those who downloaded freeWRL_3.0_vistaTo10.msi this week, here's an upgrade that will fix bombing due to missing vc libraries:

freeWRL_3.0.1_vista_7_8_10.msi

Perahps I should fix the .msi name or download readme documentation so it's clearer, or do a single 'bundle' .msi that detects your OS version and installs the appropriate one?

The two will conflict over browser plugin identification so you can't have them both on one computer. Otherwise, yes the XP version should still run on later OS.

MS Edge browser doesn't support ActiveX plugins -making your x3dom important for in-browser viewing, and your binary scene format (all one blob) important for download and open desktop viewing.
>> But Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe is still available if you hunt for it. And I have many of the usual plugins installed for IE -cosmo, vivaty, flux, cortona ... although cosmo is blackscreening for me right now I get its rubber band but no hud or scene showing, and flux era 2008 crashes after the hud and before the scene loads, but cortona2 and vivaty work fine, as does freewrl.2 and the current freewrl.3. IE plugin picker is still available, now through a link on the Link tab in launcher.
