I can also confirm that X3D-Edit 3.3 worked well as a plugin for Netbeans
8.1beta (64bit) on my up to date Gentoo linux system. The Netbeans 8.1beta
download package came bundled with oracle JRE (not sure if 1.7 or 1.8). I
used X3D-Edit on 8.1beta with both Oracle JRE and OpenJDK 1.7, and both
worked well.
