X3DOM is the way of including x3d user code directly in the html text. 
The 'fairly large' ecmascript creates the scene in the html browser.

Another way is using the html object tag structure (in which case an 
installed X3D browser like BSContact is used to play the .x3d or .x3dv 
file. Every html browser handles this slighltly differently

Or, use the X3D browser freestanding if you execute the .x3d file from 
your file manager.
