Be careful when generalizing this: The SFString in X3D XML is an
exception here, it does not treat backslashes in any special way, we
discussed this 2 months earlier :) See my mail "Backslashes in X3D XML

(We really should include the results of that discussions in the
specification eventually :) My proposed spec corrections are attached
