[x3d-public] which do you like best? How can I make thecomparison more equal?

The MacOS and iOS have WebGL; both X3DOM and X_ITE implementations of X3D work on desktop and iOS devices. However I did note in August 2016 that volumetric rendering stopped working on the "El Capitan" release of MacOS (see x3d-public mailing list archive, thread "MacOS: El Capitan breaks X3DOM volume rendering", August 2016) and I blamed it on Metal. That problem appears to have fixed in subsequent updates. I am curious as to whether there is a similar problem with implementation of "ComposedShaderNode" on MacOS.

My understanding is that Metal is a replacement for OpenGL implementation on MacOS and iOS; but I cannont find clear information on whether Metal is or is even intended to be fully backward compatible with OpenGL.
