[x3d-public] 3D web should support 2D web

Hi Valentin,

You might be referring to AR HMD's like HoloLens or Magic Leap, which are not comfortable when used for a longer time. I was happy to see the first sun-glass-like AR devices presented at CES2019, like the NReal. Don't you think we will start wearing them as normal glasses, and switch them on when needed?

Current 3d web initiatives tend to offer a game-like experience, which is good because it will lead to the possibility of having realistic environments. But in my opinion the 3d web platform that offers Html as a type of material for 3d objects could eventually cause a breakthrough for the 3d AR web, for this will allow organizations to really mix their 2d and 3d web content.

Regards,

Albert Jan

Hi

Just my two cent.

I think that HMDs will not completely replace classic screen with mouse and keyboard, at least for business and office purpose (maybe this will be different for gaming purpose).

How long can I concentrate at a specific task with an HMD on my head? One hour? Two hours? At maximum.

However, having something like “2D Web break out” with pointer device and virtual keyboard in 3D Web sounds cool.

Basically, it depends on the use cases.

Christoph

Does anyone else thinks that the future 3D web for XR HMDs should at least be able to support what we now have in 2D? For example allowing functional 2D websites 'floating' in the 3D web environment?

And of course one should also consider the security issues for this.
