That is probably not a good idea. Changing the FOV is like using a 
telephoto lens. You aren't getting closer to the object, you're just 
magnifying it. If the object had a perimeter detector (ProximitySensor), 
one of two conditions would happen

 1. You would trigger the senor if the FOV was small enough
 2. There would be different values of the distance between the camera
    and the object depending on whether you were using the FOV or
    virtual world position.

There may be justification for adding a new field that modified the LOD 
calculate depending on your FOV. It would need to cover the case of 
multiple cameras viewing the world if there was a single scene graph for 
the entire virtual environment.
