To my knowledge their is no VRML validator, per se.  Many browsers will give error logs.  VRML/ClassicVRML testing is not part of our regression suite.

Major limitation of X3D-Edit 3.3 is that it still depends on NetBeans 8.2.  You can try that as a plugin, or may have better luck with the application version.

Am making steady progress upgrading all the Java tools to OpenJDK 14.  The coming months should see upgrades to both X3D Validator and X3D-Edit.
