The X3D Working Group is proud to report that the final working draft of Extensible 3D (X3D) version 4 specification has been publicly released.

X3D® version 4 (X3D4) is a major upgrade to the Extensible 3D (X3D) Graphics International Standard that provides close support for the HTML5 Recommendation. This is major work in progress, expected to include several future versions. This effort is driven by the X3D Graphics Working Group with contributions from other working groups and daily community outreach.

Feature improvements include full support for glTF Physically Based Rendering (PBR) and non-photorealistic rendering (NPR), audio graphs and acoustic properties using Web Audio API, texture projection, inclusion in HTML pages via X3DOM or X_ITE, PointProperties for point visualization and a long list of improvements and enhancements supporting X3D model publication capabilities.
