2. Spec Planning

Last week's meeting minutes presented our draft specification-preparation plan.

[2] X3D minutes 11 SEP 2020: Web3D 2020 progress & deadlines, plan for corresponding X3D4 specifications
     http://web3d.org/pipermail/x3d-public_web3d.org/2020-September/013586.html

We have decided not to not pursue SAI 19775 SAI for X3D C/C++/C# and instead go to 4.0 in due course next spring.

Here is the working-group plan for next year. This will become realized following Web3D review of X3D4 in November at Web3D 2020, working towards approval in December. We moved up C/C++/C# in the sequence so that it has earlier attention.

================================================
Updated plan for update of all specifications to version 4, then submission for Web3D approval and followed by ISO:

2020 DEC, 19775-1 X3D Architecture NWIP/CD

2021 JAN, 19775-2 SAI version 4 NWIP/CD

2021 JAN, 19776-1 XML Encoding  NWIP/CD

2021 JAN, 19776-2 Classic VRML Encoding  NWIP/CD

2021 FEB, 19777-3/4/5 SAI version 4 for C/C++/C#

2021 MAR, 19777-1 Ecmascript (version 6 or latest)
2021 MAR, 19777-2 Java (version 14)

2021 APR, 19776-3 Compressed Binary

2021 MAY, 19777-6 Python

2021 JUN, 19776-4 EXI
2021 JUN, 19776-5 JSON

2021 JUL, ISO spec TBD, X3D Semantic Web Ontology

3. Discussed issues and alternatives relating to 3-way "mapping" field string label versus parent-child node relationships. Helpful.

Agreed to continue striving towards regular X3D approach based on fields for node relationships, rather than adding another ID label which is difficult to maintain and validate. Email between Michalis and Don (with Dick tracking too) is exploring the alternatives with great vigor.

4. Discussed recent problems associated with https -> http redirect of X3D DOCTYPE and Schema documents. This is a block-work item for model validation, development and regression testing. Vince believes he has found the problem and potential solution, work continues.

Many specification and conference activities in progress. We finished early to keep working on them individually.

Have fun developing X3D4!  8)

all the best, Don
