➢ What's the main benefit of X3D being in HTML browser?

The reason X3D hosted by html is possible is the underlying standards such as OpenGL and WebGL and the strong scripting performance of the basic web browser. That graphics stuff, and a responsive DOM.
The choice was either do html as a supplementary feature of a standalone VRML/X3D platform, like first happened in standalone VRML browsers , or to host a 3D browser in an html platform. The second was never possible until lately due to inadequate DOM and access to the metal. So basically, the WWW html browsers finally gave enough tools so that the truly dedicated standalone Web3D X3D web browsers could go where they need to go to provide the complete experience, and others can depend upon html host tools to make the scene.
Over the years the WWW xml and html and DOM and other tool speccers have seen that they also needed to work using the latest and greatest rendering and computation facilities, or else face actual competition from the several real WWW based ‘standalone’ Web3D interactive browsers.
As well as promoting and implementing high performance rendering and producing an html element and a real alive DOM that has a reasonable ability to host and interact with a real X3D implementation made what you can see today possible.

➢ Only standard interface and integration with standard browser features?

Well yeah, and we pretty much have to deal with what the html host gives us.
Thanks,
Joe

Subject: [x3d-public] main benefits of X3D

Hello.
What's the main benefit of X3D being in HTML browser? There are some programs like Google Earth etc that also use 3D and web. Only standard interface and integration with standard browser features?

Thanks
Konstantin
