[x3d-public] main benefits of X3D

Yes, we used to have to try and run a real predownloaded and actually installed in the host OS ‘standalone’ VRML/X3D browser in an object tag or sandboxed element. Early days actually saw some systems provide both the html and the VRML browsers already installed. Amazingly enough you could actually click on a vrml file and run the thing standalone.
As might be expected, netscape used one VRML browser (Cosmo) and ie used another (WorldView). And then there was at least one or three more very complete VRML players based in Europe.
Great when the stuff worked, and there were some marvelous devices produced.
Thanks,
Joe

No separate download, no plugin necessary.   It just works like any other HTML5.

You should check out the features of HTML5....very cool.

Hello.
What's the main benefit of X3D being in HTML browser? There are some programs like Google Earth etc that also use 3D and web. Only standard interface and integration with standard browser features?

Thanks
Konstantin
