This would be a good argument to introduce Ogg formats to the X3D spec.
Just like HTML 5 did (although for now seems to be discussed,

for including in X3D specification requirements for Ogg Theora for
MovieTexture, and at least recommending Ogg Vorbis instead of MP3 for
AudioClip.
The only "safer" alternative seems to be to stop suggesting any concrete
format in the specification, but this obviously hurts every author that
wants to create interoperable 3D files.

Second that. Although 'interoperable 3D' is an oxymoron. Unless you're
dealing with non-textured, non-lit,<br>
