<p style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt">The Visionarium Lab at Virginia
Tech is an international leader in immersive and web virtual reality
visualization who supports science, engineering and design activities across
the University – <a href="https://vis.arc.vt.edu/">https://vis.arc.vt.edu/</a> . We are looking for
motivated candidates who want to use 3D graphics and scientific visualization
to solve the big problems at the cutting-edge of research. As part of the
Advanced Research Computing (<span class="">ARC</span>) group –
<a href="http://www.arc.vt.edu">http://www.arc.vt.edu</a> , the advertised position will work closely with
computational faculty and students and Information Technology teams to provide
high-performance visualization environments.</p>

<p style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt">The position is responsible for
maintaining and developing visual computing systems and solutions for the broad community
of Virginia Tech faculty and student stakeholders; these solutions will be
strategic and driven by ARC leadership. Strong communication skills are valued
for interdisciplinary work. The successful candidate must have experience in
the following: Linux/Unix system administration, <span class="">Windows
system administration</span>, programming (such as OpenGL, C++, python) and some
scene graph technology for interactive 3D graphics. A BS/BA in Computer Science
or a related engineering discipline is required. Prior experience with immersive
VR systems, software development, <span class="">SQL</span>/scripting, and/or
web standards is a plus.</p>

for this position is as follows:</p>

<p style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt"><b style>30 % Maintenance, Testing, Quality Assurance</b><br>
• Maintain VisCube and lab machines (with patches, new installs, etc.)<br>
• Maintain common user authentication, directory structures and network-accessible
file system (with backups)<br>
• Maintain Visual Computing webservers and multi-user collaboration services<br>
• Maintain common lab equipment such as displays and input devices</p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt"> </p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt"><b style>40 % Deployment / Support</b><br>
• Deploy and improve the software stack for the Visionarium platforms<br>
• Support day-to-day operations including responding to help tickets </p>

other visualization and graphics activities around campus<br>
• Fulfilling user requests such as assisting faculty and students with setting
up visualization pipelines and toolkits<br>
• Support education and outreach activities for interactive 3D visualization
