The Web3D Consortium members along with the Korea Chapter group will be
meeting today September 8, at 5:10pm PDT (September 9, Thursday, at 9:10am
Korea time) to discuss the goals and deliverables for the Web3D E-Learning
Special Interest Group.
If you are interested in contributing and participating in this meeting
today please send me an email for details on the toll-free telecon
information.
The potential of the 3D Web to deliver the next level of rich media that is
interactive, narrative and immersive in a virtual space for e-learning is
enormous. It will be a new way to engage information with the learning
community across the globe.
To raise awareness and interest in web-enabled 3D visualization learning
tools a special interest group have been formed by the Web3D Consortium.
The goal of this Special Interest Group is to:
. Explore and demonstrate best practices for integrating X3D
Graphics models with e-learning content.
. Create demonstration examples showing how X3D model display,
animation and user interaction can all augment the learning effectiveness of
online textbooks.
. Show how X3D can serve as the common archival publishing format
for a wide variety of diverse 3D graphics technologies.
. Document these lessons learned for repeatable use by partnered
consortium members and the educational community.
. Formalize this effort and start a Working Group to implement these
requirements to the respective standards specifications.
This effort has strategic importance for Web3D, since X3D is the only ISO
certified file format and runtime architecture for 3D graphics. We intend to
establish a solid foundation for X3D to properly support 3D graphics in
learning tools and platforms.
This special interest group is open to all interested individuals and will
meet twice a month through a toll free Telecon. Details will be announced
soon.
Best regards,
Anita
