I think people need to make a BUSINESS case for 3D.  Let's think of some use cases:

1) Does it make developing software or 3D artifacts quicker or easier (most browsers don't create content--it's hard to sell stuff that doesn't create content).
2) Can you create quality animated movies with it quicker or easier, that can be posted to YouTube with one click.
3) Can it be used in medical procedures.
4) Does it make the best 3D graphs/charts/plots (wow factor)
