I have a X3D-UML tool which will generate 3D diagrams from a COM source (via
C#). It currently works for state machine diagrams and a UML tool called
RoseRT. It would need a bit of work to make it generate new diagram types
but is doable.

You could look at the vrml output of Graphviz, which is very basic but might
help.
