X3D Schema, DTD update activity: a milestone moment.

27 January 2015, brutzman
- commenced work on experimental X3D v3.4 files, created as a direct copy of all v3.3 constructs.
these will be maintained consistently with corresponding versions 3.3, 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0.

Changes solely consist of file name and version number modifications from 3.3 (current recommended) to v3.4 (experimental).

These assets can be found on the X3D Specifications: XML Schema and DOCTYPE Validation page.

Tool authors can begin adding experimental support to their software, and authors can begin using version 3.4 in experimental scenes. These validation documents will track ongoing evolutionary additions and changes approved by the various Web3D working groups in coordination with the X3D Working Group.

	Computer Aided Design (CAD)
	Geospatial (X3D-Earth)
	Humanoid Animation (H-Anim)
	Mixed Augmented Reality (MAR)

X3D version 3.4 Development efforts are evolutionary improvements to the proven X3D Graphics architecture. Working groups and individual contributions are currently defining future goals and requirements.

Full documentation updates have been autogenerated for the XML Schema and DOCTYPE validators.

Thanks to group-review feedback during the Humanoid Animation (HAnim) and Web3D Korea Chapter meetings here in Seoul this week, there is also a small update to the X3D Graphics Standards: Specification Relationships diagram to show all major planned work.

Planned next steps:
- Add small changes/additions to HAnimJoint and HAnimSegment enumerations providing names for anatomical-fidelity hands and feet.
- Test validation on example scenes.
- Add v3.4 support to X3D-Edit, X3D Validator and X3D Tidy.

As ever, all X3D Schema and DTD changes are tested through validation regression testing of 3800+ open source X3D scenes.

Interested in helping a working group define X3D version 3.4? Great. Join the Web3D Consortium!

Feedback welcome. As ever, thanks for all contributions.

Have fun... with X3D version 3.4 evolution!

all the best, Don
