[x3d-public] qgis and x3d

QGIS, a well known open source, cross-platform GIS application, has a grant
program which had a call for proposals a while ago. A modest proposal to
enhance interoperability between QGIS and X3D geospatial was submitted and
is being voted on by a committee until the end of the month:

There is a complimentary (perhaps competing) proposal for integrated 3d
viewing as well, so it will be a quite exciting time.

Apart from the grant, there was already quite positive feedback and
interest in contributing to such an effort from QGIS community.
