Hi all,

We have several funded PhD studentships available within the newly formed
multisensory devices group at UCL starting in October 2021.

Multi-Sensory Devices (MSD) group is an interdisciplinary research group within
UCLIC with a core interest in creating new forms of interactive
multisensory user experiences through the development and exploitation of
novel sensor and actuator technology. We are a full-stack research group
combining physical and social sciences with prototyping, electronic
control, computational fabrication, perceptual research, and experience
design. The MSD group consists of several PhD students and postdoctoral
staff exploring research at the intersection of these disciplines.

The lab consists of three academic members of staff who are all looking for
PhD students.

   -

   Sriram Subramanian <https://www.linkedin.com/in/srisub/>

Marianna is looking for students to design and study multisensory
experiences, especially tactile and olfactory interactions, in immersive
digital environments drawing on emerging computational techniques.

Diego is looking for students to explore high-performance algorithms for
acoustic manipulation, extending their capabilities for multi-modal (3D
visual, audio or tactile) stimulation or increasing their scalability to
larger setups.

Sri is specifically looking for students to explore the fabrication of
novel mechanical and acoustic devices through computational geometry
optimization and machine learning.

Within the broad scope of our funded projects, students will have freedom
to steer the direction of the project towards their interests and
strengths.

Candidates should have a good first degree (1st or 2:1) in computer
science, or a closely related discipline. A master's degree in interactive
graphics, robotics or closely related area is highly desirable. Candidates
without a master's degree may be admitted in exceptional cases where
suitable research experience can be demonstrated.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact a potential supervisor and
discuss an application before the submission deadline.

The closing date for applications is 1st February 2021.  For more
