Hello all,
We have some big updates!
1. New Castle Game Engine (version 7.0-alpha.3) is available. See
https://castle-engine.io/ and downloads on
https://castle-engine.io/download .
Castle Game Engine is our game engine, cross platform (desktop,
mobile, consoles), for 3D and 2D, with a comfortable visual editor,
using modern Object Pascal.
And naturally with strong emphasis on open 3D standards: as I said
explicitly, I love both glTF and X3D and I'm committed to a perfect
support for both of them. See https://castle-engine.io/gltf where we
recommend glTF as a 3D model format to interchange (particularly if
you author your content in Blender, https://castle-engine.io/blender )
and see https://castle-engine.io/x3d where we discuss X3D and how X3D
nodes are the basic building block of Castle Game Engine rendering and
processing.
The new release is a result of 2 years of work, and we have lots
of new features, see https://castle-engine.io/release_7.0-alpha.3 .
2. New Castle Model Viewer (5.2.0) along Castle Model Converter are
available. See https://castle-engine.io/castle-model-viewer .
Castle Model Viewer is our GUI model viewer for all supported
formats (including X3D and glTF). Castle Model Converter is a model
converter and validator.
Under the hood, they both use Castle Game Engine for the "core"
work. As such, they also benefit from some Castle Game Engine updates,
as also happens with this release.
The changes in this release on listed on
https://castle-engine.io/wp/2024/08/28/castle-model-viewer-release-5-2-0-updated-underlying-engine-better-shadow-maps-float-based-images-for-shaders-cycle-viewpoints-fixed-multi-viewport/
. The previous 5.0.0 release was not so long ago, so the changes are
more "modest", still important for some use-cases :)
It's all free and open-source and I hope you enjoy it. And if you do,
support (e.g. using Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/castleengine ) is
much appreciated!
P.S. Reminder about a *mobile* (Android now) version of the viewer:
get it from https://castle-engine.io/castle-model-viewer-mobile . And
ping me (or even support!) if you miss iOS version :)
Regards,
Michalis
