[cc: x3d-public]

Anita, thanks for your efforts getting all of these efforts together and moving forward. Web3D membership has value, Dick Puk and I continue working every week to advance all of the X3D standards to match the capabilities of the X3D 4.0 Architecture.

Every step of the way since 1994 has also depended on public input, review and implementation as well. That will not change! Our community is very special and very important.

The X3D Standards Working Group will use both lists as appropriate to the topics at hand: the x3d members list for members-only information (sometimes a lot, given our many liaisons) and x3d-public for general discussion of capabilities, techniques, specification explanation, implementation, evaluation, etc. Our mail archives provide a lot of knowledge power to everyone.

Looking forward to continuing progress together. Have fun with X3D Standards! 😊

all the best, Don

Subject: [x3d] X3D Working Group Name Change

Dear members of the X3D working group,

After much discussion and consideration, the X3D Working Group has shifted its focus exclusively to standardization of X3D technology. Web3D Consortium has renamed it to X3D Standards Working Group <https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fdocument%2Fd%2F1CjmZ67PFVDeyX96GvVLE7nAGjbJBm51-Gr9dksXqWUg%2Fedit&data=05%7C02%7Cbrutzman%40nps.edu%7C0a06108e9cc04eba852708dc8efaa9e3%7C6d936231a51740ea9199f7578963378e%7C0%7C0%7C638542454472914880%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=yH7enI1h3Ua9dIloJLMd5sxsM2u8T02wKGS9OtKYYK4%3D&reserved=0> to better reflect this new direction.

The X3D Standards Working Group evolved from the long-standing X3D Working Group and now has a set of specific, focused goals. These are:

1. X3D Specifications Synchronization

2. X3D Example Model Compliance Checking

3. X3D Implementation Compliance Consistency

4. Standards Development Organizations (SDO) and Metaverse Standards Forum (MSF) Support

A <https://www.web3d.org/working-groups/x3d-standards/charter> new charter with more details is available on the public side of the site. The working group will continue communicating using <mailto:x3d at web3d.org> x3d at web3d.org mailing address ( <https://web3d.org/mailman/listinfo/x3d_web3d.org> subscribe) . The public and member working group pages have been renamed with new URLs to reflect this change in focus.

To increase adoption and growth of the X3D ecosystem, the Web3D Consortium is also launching a new X3D Ecosystem Special Interest Group <https://www.web3d.org/working-groups/x3d-ecosystem> (SIG) to work on integration of X3D content across diverse domains, platforms, tools, and end-users. The group is responsible for coordinating solutions to real-world problems with the existing X3D standard and works closely with the X3D Standards Working Group. We welcome all ideas and comments.

We hope that all members will continue to actively participate in the X3D Standards group and contribute to our new focus. Thank you for all the support as we make this change.
