I am happy to announce that the open-source Savage X3D Model Archive has
been forked and rehosted by Web3D Consortium.
- Savage X3D Examples Archive
- The Savage X3D Examples Archive is a large collection of dynamic 3D
military models and authoring tools, all open source and built using
Extensible 3D (X3D) graphics. Models were originally produced as part of
graduate-student research work by the Scenario Authoring and Visualization
for Advanced Graphical Environments (SAVAGE) Research Group at the Naval
Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey California USA.
There are 27 Sections for 203 Directories holding 1233 Models. These
examples have been produced over the past three decades by students and
faculty, some are simple and some are sophisticated.
- Web3D Consortium Open Source License

Further details and a complete build log showing validation results and
open issues are found as follows, along with SourceForge version control.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary Web3D 2025 Conference in Siena Italy
next week, a complete update has also been performed for all of the other
X3D Examples Archives, including Basic, ConformanceNist, Humanoid Animation
(HAnim), VRML 2 Sourcebook, X3D For Advanced Modeling (X3D4AM), and X3D For
Web Authors (X3D4WA).
- X3D Resources, Examples: Scene Archives for X3D
- The X3D Examples Archives demonstrate how X3D nodes and scenes work.
Thousands of scenes are provided in all X3D encodings. You can browse them
individually online or download fully complete, separately installable .zip
archives.
Author support is further provided inside X3D-Edit for downloading full
archives then editing, validating, and adapting any models in these
archives.
- X3D-Edit 4.0 Authoring Tool for Extensible 3D (X3D) Graphics
- X3D-Edit is a free, open-source Extensible 3D (X3D) Graphics authoring
tool for simple high-quality authoring, editing, import/export, validation
and viewing of X3D scenes.

Advanced X3D authors might be especially interested in using some of our
prototype tools.

- X3D Example Archives: Savage, Tools, Authoring

For X3D prototypes, which enable authors to effectively create new X3D
nodes, the proto declaration and proto instance are kept in separate files
to best show X3D extensibility and reuse. For example:
- X3D Example Archives: Savage, Tools, Animation, Double Click Touch
Sensor Example
- Double-click TouchSensor design pattern, showing example use.

- X3D Example Archives: Savage, Tools, Animation, Time Delay Sensor
Example
- Time delay sensor design pattern: example use.

We climbed mountains in the Savage Research Group... you can enjoy the view
too. Have fun with X3D example model archives! 😀👍
all the best, Don
