Hi Don, Joe

>>> collaboration is one of the most important things we do

I think, we should define collaboration on different levels/layers

1. Collaborating, when defining the standards for the Web
2. Collaborating, when creating/editing/reusing Web3D scenes (imho, this is "the main mission" of the consortium, isn't it?)
3. Collaborating, when using multiuser scenes (DIS, Network Sensor, WebRTC, ........)

>>> The concept [of collaboration] is built-in and assumed to be present at all times with no need for special emphasis

Exactly that's the reason, why we cannot use the term "collaboration" explicitly, when defining the term "virtual reality", imho

>>> hope you are well
I am currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Agathenhof in Carinthia because I have some health problems due to being overweight.
No big issue, however it hinders me from being very active in the community, currently
Hi Cristoph, hope you are well.

I think that collaboration is one of the most important things we do, and continue building capabilities that extend/support X3D in that regard.

As for Web3D Consortium, that is the mission: “Open Standards for Real-Time 3D Communication”

https://www.web3D.org

Spent this weekend upgrading DisTime class in open-dis7-java for Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) for continued tuning of track-streams conversion into X3D interpolators. IEEE DIS standard is a fully distributed peer-to-peer protocol for shared state. The journey continues…

all the best, Don
About "collaboration":

I am not 100% sure, but I think, Don once told me collaboration not being one of the "core" topics at Web3D.

So I think, defining virtual reality via the term of collaboration might be problematic.

Opinions?
Virtual reality is collaboration with reality.
