X3D is intended for use on a variety of hardware devices and in a broad range of application areas such as engineering and scientific visualization, multimedia presentations, entertainment and educational titles, web pages, and shared virtual worlds. X3D is also intended to be a universal interchange format for integrated 3D graphics and multimedia. X3D is the successor to the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML), the original ISO standard for web-based 3D graphics (ISO/IEC 14772-1). X3D improves upon VRML with new features, advanced application programmer interfaces, additional data encoding formats, stricter conformance, and a componentized architecture that allows for a modular approach to supporting the standard.<o:p></o:p></li><li class=MsoListParagraph style='margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>The ISO/IEC 19776 series of standards specifies the X3D encodings of the functionality defined in [I19775-1].<o:p></o:p></li><li class=MsoListParagraph style='margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>This part of ISO/IEC 19776 specifies the X3D encoding of X3D files using the Extensible Markup Language (XML).<o:p></o:p></li></ul><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>We invite all comments on this document.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Formal changes have been applied to make this draft standard consistent with:<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><ul style='margin-top:0in' type=disc><li class=MsoListParagraph style='margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>ISO/IEC 19775-1, X3D Architecture version 4.0, 2023<o:p></o:p></li><li class=MsoListParagraph style='margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>https://www.web3d.org/specifications/X3Dv4/ISO-IEC19775-1v4-IS/Part01/Architecture.html<o:p></o:p></li><li class=MsoListParagraph style='margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>https://www.web3d.org/x3d4<o:p></o:p></li><li class=MsoListParagraph style='margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>https://www.web3d.org/specifications/X3dGraphicsStandardsRelationships.png<o:p></o:p></li></ul><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>All changes are applied using version control, and visible to Web3D Consortium members at:<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><ul style='margin-top:0in' type=disc><li class=MsoListParagraph style='margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>https://github.com/Web3DConsortium<o:p></o:p></li><li class=MsoListParagraph style='margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>https://github.com/Web3DConsortium/X3D/tree/master/ISO-IEC19775/ISO-IEC19775-2/ISO-IEC19775-2v4.0/ISO-IEC19775-2v4.0-WD1/Part02<o:p></o:p></li></ul><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>All issues have been discussed on the x3d-public mailing list.
