X3D and E-Learning
Goals: X3D and E-Learning
The Web3D Consortium and the IMS Consortium have partnered together to collaboratively harmonize and integrate Web3D and IMS standards for Web-Enabled 3D content, tools and platforms for e-learning.
Our proposal
• Explore and demonstrate best practices for integrating X3D Graphics models with e-learning content.
• Create demonstration examples showing how X3D model display, animation and user interaction can all augment the learning effectiveness of online textbooks.
• Show how X3D can serve as the common archival publishing format for a wide variety of diverse 3D graphics technologies.
• Document these lessons learned for repeatable use by partnered consortium members and the educational community.
• Formalize this effort and start a Working Group to implement these requirements to the respective standards specifications.
Technical Tasks
We are working on the following tasks.
Work Support
- Maintain this X3D and E-Learning wiki page to track issues and progress
- Identify people in IMS Consortium who want to collaborate with us on these issues
- Report on efforts regularly to x3d-public@web3d.org mailing list and in our every-other-week X3D working group teleconferences
- Discussions to occur on the x3d-public@web3d.org mailing list and public-html@w3.org mailing list
- Other tasks and efforts as needed
