[Korea-chapter] Web3D Conference - 2014 Hosting (Seoul, Korea)

Dear Anita,

I would like to address the possibility of holding the 2014 Web3D
Conference in Korea as follows:

1)
We are guessing that it will be difficult to garner enough interest for 100
participants at a Korean-held conference.
The reason lies in the Korean academic evaluation policy where presentation
of research papers at conferences does not hold much weight.
This policy is adopted in almost all universities and research institutes
in Korea.
I’m not sure of the rationale behind the policy, but it could have to do
with the difficulty of classifying the numerous and various conferences as
far as quality and value goes. As a result of the policy, many Korean
researchers don’t participate in submitting papers for presentation at
conferences and, therefore, participation by Korean researchers would
likely be low.

An added issue is that participation by foreigners may be low due to
expensive travel.

In my opinion, I think we could realistically expect 20 attendees from
Korea.

2)
Despite this, if you would still like to hold the conference in Korea,
we will look for a sponsor capable of providing a conference venue with two
or three meeting rooms.
Most likely, other expenditures will not be supported at this time.
I am sorry not to have a more positive response to your suggestion.

Sincerely,

Myeong
