Our very long term policy has been to always support the version behind
the latest. So, Java 6 is what we run on now. We wouldn't move to Java 7
features until Java 8 is in production. Much of this policy is driven by
OS/X support, that traditionally lags substantially behind the official
Oracle (nee Sun) releases. We stayed on Java 5 for years after official
support for it was ended, so I'm not in favour of this as being a good
argument to move forward just yet.
