[X3D-Public] large X3D models (pet hate)

I have a pet hate with large X3D models that make you wait before you can interacitve with the model or run really slowly

two examples:
http://irishlighthouseexperience.com/fastnet_x3dom.xhtml wait 5 minutes.., firefox may freeze :(
http://www.herwales.co.uk/iron/xd/ large terrain model runs at 0.22fps on a 1.66Ghz/1Gb Ram netbook :(

options: load in a low detail model and refine the model to the full detail model using Level of Detail methods (<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Level_of_detail>)
