B. Summary and Technical reports

Opportunity for anyone to make a short report on Web site, marketing,
communication, specification or technical matters that is not already on the
Agenda.

Eleven issues were triaged. Three were agreed and updated to Assigned. One
required more info therefore was updated to Feedback. Seven were updated to
Acknowledged.

C. Discussion Topics

1.	Release of Mantis subgroup meeting minutes to the public

The motive for public release is similar to that for the full WG minutes -
keeping the community aware of steady activity, and encouraging people to
join. Roy noted, however, that for specification comments submitted last
year or earlier, we do not have the submitter's permission to make the
details of the issue public.

It was agreed that minutes be publicly disseminated on a weekly basis,
following the same procedure as the full WG minutes, i.e. approval at the
start of the subsequent meeting.

2.	Sequencers for floating point data types

Reference:
http://web3d.org/pipermail/x3d-public_web3d.org/2017-October/007599.html
thread on the public list entitled "FloatSequencer ?"

Don summarized the historical narrative on the use of interpolators for
floating point numbers and the possibility of using sequencers. VRML defined
introduced interpolators, which were all piecewise linear functions. X3D
added more interpolators to cover different types, including non-linear
interpolators. Finally event utilities were added, dealing with integers and
booleans. It is noteworthy that sequencers have the additional fields,
'next' and 'previous'.

Why not have sequences for floating point? One reason was to avoid node
bloat, as eight new nodes would be needed to cover all types. However, it
was also suggested that new nodes could improve animation.

Rather that provide an immediate answer it was suggested the prototypes
could be written to assess usage. This was agreed to be a good way forward.
It was noted that an external prototype could be used, keeping the file with
the prototype on the web site. Then authors and scene players could download
it as needed. It was felt that this would be a good approach to promote
community involvement.

Reviewing the long term aspects, however, it was noted that for
archivability reasons the new nodes ought to be in the standard, and not
offered as external prototypes.
