The X3D® version 4.0 specification is now ratified by ISO/IEC as an International Standard. This latest version continues the tradition of interoperability, long-term stability, and royalty-free use while providing powerful new graphics and multimedia capabilities. The Web3D® Consortium's X3D version 4.0 standard spans a cross-platform ecosystem, including other standards such as glTF, HTML, MIDI, and Web Audio API for interactive, composable worlds on the Web.

Immersive 3D visualization helps researchers with richer knowledge of fluid in tumors and could lead to advancements in understanding how glioblastoma tumors spread. The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, shared data on fluid flow in brain tumors with Virginia Tech’s Visionarium, which created 3D visualizations using X3D that allow new insights.

X_ITE announces it's new release - An open source 3D JavaScript library that uses WebGL for 3D rendering. Authors can publish X3D and VRML 3D Scenes on the Web without plugins. This gives X3D authors the ability to display content in 3D, using WebGL in several Web browsers and platforms.
