Andreas,

Having reviewed the specification I agree with you. I think the centerOfRotation should in the local coordinate system, just like the position. It is worth generating a formal specification comment <http://www.web3d.org/content/web3d-standards-comment-form> to clarify the spec. As you spotted this, would you like to raise the comment?

Subject: [x3d-public] viewpoint center of rotation coordinate system

In the spirit of the detailed review of the spec., a clarification of the coordinate system of the center of rotation position given with a viewpoint node may be appropriate.

Since the position of viewpoint is given in the local coordinate system, I would have expected that the center of rotation is also given in the local coordinate system. However, the spec. at

http://www.web3d.org/documents/specifications/19775-1/V3.3/Part01/components/navigation.html#X3DViewpointNode

does not spell out the coordinate system for the center of rotation position, and x3dom currently uses the world coordinate system for the center of rotation, see issue https://github.com/x3dom/x3dom/issues/504. although this may be an oversight.

If the intention is to use the local coordinate system for the center of rotation position, it may be useful to spell it out in the spec. as well.

Andreas
