The JSON Schema internet draft expired in 2013 but nevertheless looks pretty mature, and is at version 4.

The large number of tools available is also encouraging.  Two are listed for Java, so if a JSON Schema can be devised for the eventual X3D JSON encoding, then that can be added to the example-archives build process.
