But the cobweb docs do say this:

You can style the X3D tag as every HTML tag with CSS as well as you can place it everywhere within the DOM tree. 

I guess you could try it out with JQuery and DOM,  I haven’t tried it yet much except at the X3D element. From what I’ve seen, you can only style the X3D element.
