X3D-Edit maintains a list of default/typical installation directories for each operating system.

Users are welcome to modify them in the preferences panel.  They are also provided with links to download, select and test each tool.

If the application is found, then the menus and "autolaunch all browsers" functionality will launch them and pass along the author's model.

So the only convenience information that might be provided for the code, to assist authors, is the typical installation directory.

Thus zero impact on whether something actually works or not.
