Happy New Year everyone!

The X3D Working Group meets weekly.

Attendees: John Carlson, Anita Havele, Dick Puk, Doug Sanden, Don Brutzman

No Web3D member-only information in these minutes. Membership has value.

1.	2023 Strategic Goals: Implement, Evaluate, Deploy X3D Anywhere!

Our primary activities for X3D Working Group in 2023:

a.	Encourage consistent rendering, interaction and usage for the many
implementations supporting the tremendous capabilities in X3D4.
b.	Update draft ISO specifications for multiple programming-language
and file encodings to match X3D4.

*	Web3D Recommended Standards

We expect to begin reviewing the implementation-support spreadsheet.

*	X3D Node Inventory Comparison
*	https://www.web3d.org/specifications/X3dNodeInventoryComparison.pdf

We cannot finalize use of JSON Schema, or X3D JSON validation, because it is
not yet stable and standardized, despite many years of toil over there.
Staying tuned.

2.	Preparations for ISO Editing Meeting

There will be an ISO meeting next Tuesday 1400-1600 pacific, namely thee
32nd meeting of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 24/WG 6, our working group for the
International Standards Organization.

We will be reviewing all comments by national bodies, all editorial. We
received 12 affirmative votes (and no negative votes) in balloting for

ISO/IEC 19775-1:2022
*

Architecture.html

Twelve national bodies have submitted YES votes for the X3D4 Draft
International Specification (DIS), along with comments to consider. No
negative votes were received.

Dick has prepared a draft response document. We will share these draft and
completed documents with Web3D Consortium members via the member-only
x3d at web3d.org <mailto:x3d at web3d.org>  mailing list.

Majority of the received comments are editorial in nature and (we expect)
resolvable in a straightforward manner. No apparent technical
changes/improvements were received, but if there are any, then we will
record an appropriate response and defer their disposition to future X3D 4.1
efforts.

We will also review potential emergent editorial comments from ongoing X3D
review by this group.

*	Mantis Issue Tracker

We identified one lingering mismatch, the orthographic fieldOfView for
OrthoViewpoint is MFFloat and fieldOfView for TextureProjectorParallel is
SFVec3f. Dick thinks both should be MFFloat, Don thinks both should be
SFVec4f for validity (any array not of length 4 is erroneous).

*	Mantis 1398: OrthoViewpoint fieldOfView type needs to be SFVec4f,
not MFFloat
*	https://www.web3d.org/member-only/mantis/view.php?id=1398

The inconsistency ought to be resolved, it does not make sense (it is
better) to have such a difference. Input welcome on this long-running
issue.

So. looks like we are ready for next week's meeting.

3.	Audio Spatial Sound

Example scenes for new Sound component nodes:

Spatial Sound

Request for Efi Lakka and Thanos Malamos: please advise if these match your
latest audio examples.

Everyone should note that (I think) we recently agreed to make all
enumeration constants FULLY CAPITALIZED so that needs updating too.

*	Mantis 1411: enumeration values for Web Audio nodes do not follow
CAPITALIZATION conventions
*	https://www.web3d.org/member-only/mantis/view.php?id=1411

Thanks to everyone for so much tremendous work, coming all together. after a
decade of immense progress!  Wow.

Have fun with X3D!  8)

all the best, Don
