Sounds like your typical online shopping cart. You'd still use 2D images for textures, then add fields for X3D objects. Install that within a virtual store, make everything searchable, and 3D items pop-up in the scene when there are hits. Pretty much exactly what I am working on now with my limited means, it's like merging an online store with virtual reality. It can work with both RL merchandise and inworld items that avatars own. Commerce would be great too.

Not a final concept, but the general lines of what's needed to be explored in more depth. We probably should put a business plan together and start seeking investors. Then hire within the X3D community and get this show on the road. GL

Perhaps we should not only consider 3D business, but also 3D Commerce and VR Commerce.

How does one purchase real products in 3D and VR, for example.

How might we provide something beyond 2D videos and images realistic enough to be convincing? AR?

Something like:

Vendor, product = ProductSearch(terms, filters)

Items = Select(selector)

Price = quote(item, vendor)

Visualize(item, price)

Purchase(item, price, vendor, credential, funds)

Package = prepareForDelivery(item)

TrackingInfo = Deliver(package, name, address)

Track = Find(TrackingInfo)

Perhaps we should make it easy for someone to create an online 3D shop?

What is the best 3D representation of an exchange? A phone or smartcard “swiping”?

What if we replaced cashiers with cameras/robots?

John

Lauren, John,

Imho the first priority is not to build yet another game engine (this might happen as a side effect), but to collaboratively realize one collaboration use case in a completely open manner and to DEFINE THE PROTOCOL in the form of an IETF I-D.

Some parts of the software might be closed source but the PROTOCOLS & INTERFACES should really be defined in an open way.

just my opinion.

yours Christoph

P.S. if I receive two or three indications of interest, I can seize the holiday season and provide a draft.

I had more here, but got disenheartened. All that is left is my Fuzzy Mine requirements and the below

I suggest we work on a collaborative game system, maybe encompassing various types of Game Theory.

https://ludii.games/

Then we move into “Work Theory.” Where we design “roles” for people to fill. And build a workplace suitable for COVID-* based on those roles. Perhaps we should allow people to design their own workspaces.

I do not have a clear plan here. That’s what’s frustrating.

It’s kind of like we’re designing a whole new planet!
