Nice of you to try building X3D-Edit John.
We worked hard on X3D-Edit over the holiday break. Got very very very close... but unfortunately the current codebase no longer seems fixable, too many subcomponents, and too many often-hidden prior-version errors, including this one that you found. The details involved are immense. Please eject, "cutaway" if needed and get outta there! :0

We are backtracking... planning to build a single new empty plugin under Netbeans 12.6 as shown in their tutorial, then integrate all prior X3D-Edit code in that new place as a single component for simplicity and maintainability.

Sadly won't be very soon, have too many other active plates spinning. We will get there eventually.
all the best, Don

Trying to get beta X3D-Edit working, it's complaining about not having Java 8. I have OpenJDK 17 from OpenJDK official site. I will try NetBeans next. Do I need to set JAVA_HOME to the bin folder? Thanks, I forgot maybe.

With all due speed, please ensure that create.X3DJSAIL ant target is working.
Not sure X3d-Edit 4 is working, will alter script to add bin to JAVA_HOME, and report back my success or failure:
~/x3dedit40/x3dedit40/bin $ ./x3dedit4064Wind*bat
Must set environment variable JAVA_HOME
JAVA_HOME=C:\openjdk-17.0.1_windows-x64_bin\jdk-17.0.1
C:\Users\john\x3dedit40\x3dedit40\bin>set jdkhome=C:\openjdk-17.0.1_windows-x64_bin\jdk-17.0.1
jdkhome=C:\openjdk-17.0.1_windows-x64_bin\jdk-17.0.1
C:\Users\john\x3dedit40\x3dedit40\bin>x3dedit4064.exe
