X3D Ecosystem Special Interest Group - Call for Participation

Web3D Consortium announces the X3D Ecosystem special interest group to accelerate the progress of integrating X3D content across diverse domains and platforms. By extending support of X3D authoring tools and X3D conversion tools in other 3D technologies we can bring X3D to mainstream use. Calling 3D experts and enthusiasts to join.

Web3D Consortium announces the launch of the new X3D Ecosystem Special Interest Group focused on the growth of the X3D ecosystem. Participants in this group are developing immediate solutions to real-world problems with the existing X3D standard.

Participation is always welcome from 3D experts and enthusiasts to accelerate the progress of integrating X3D content across diverse domains, platforms, tools and end-users.  The SIG works closely with the X3D Standards Working Group to enable further focused improvements to the X3D standard. See the X3D Ecosystem Special Interest Group Charter for our motivations, goals and objectives.

As we all know, X3D has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with virtual environments. We believe that by bringing together experts and enthusiasts from different backgrounds can accelerate the progress of integrating X3D content and extending support of X3D authoring tools and X3D conversion tools in other 3D technologies, bringing X3D to mainstream use.

We are initially starting with information gathering and testing for the following topics:

  • Video streaming rendering in X3DOM
  • OGC 3D Tiles standard support in X3DOM
  • Unity and Three.js loaders
  • Blender model import and export

If you are interested in joining the X3D ecosystem special Interest group, please subscribe to the x3d-ecosystem@web3d.org mailing list. This group is not member restricted and is open to all.

Looking forward to your participation and contribution.
